The Seahawks and Vikings switched fifth-round picks as part of the deal, with No. 142 going to Seattle and No. 172 heading to Minnesota. Seattle selected defensive end Rylie Mills with the 142nd pick.

Howell will act as backup to J.J. McCarthy.

This is Howell's third team in four years. He's in the last year of his rookie contract. The 24-year-old only played two games last year and was QB2 behind Geno Smith.

The Seahawks signed former Vikings er Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5-million deal in March. Seattle also selected Jalen Milroe in the third round of the NFL draft Friday.
