Horvat is returning home from Sweden to be evaluated by the Islanders' doctors.
The 30-year-old had eight points in six tourney games before getting injured. Canada added Porter Martone, a projected top-10 pick in this year's draft, to the roster Tuesday with Horvat unavailable.
Horvat notched 28 goals and 29 assists in 81 games for the Islanders this season, his second full campaign with the club after a trade from the Vancouver Canucks.
