Ridden by jockey Umberto Rispoli, Journalism narrowly edged out Gosger for the win, overcoming early in the race before surging to the finish line.
The victory was redemption for Journalism after finishing runner-up at the Kentucky Derby earlier in May. Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby winner, didn't participate in the Preakness Stakes.
