Twins' López to miss 8-12 weeks with shoulder strain 5c3s29

The Minnesota Twins announced starting pitcher Pablo López was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of the teres major in his right shoulder. 6m1s4s

López was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for 8-12 weeks.

Right-hander David Festa was recalled from Triple-A to take López's spot on the active roster.

López, 29, appeared to suffer the injury while warming up for the sixth inning during his start Tuesday against the Athletics. He left the game after a brief conversation with team trainers.

Fellow Minnesota Twin Joe Ryan sustained a similar injury last year on Aug. 7 and missed the remainder of the season.

López missed two starts in April with a hamstring strain.

The right-hander has been effective when healthy this year, pitching to a 2.82 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 61 strikeouts across 60 2/3 innings.

López made 32 starts in each of the previous three seasons.
