The Tigers just keep rolling. Much was made of the club's failed pursuit of Alex Bregman during the offseason, but Gleyber Torres has quietly been very good. He owns a .790 OPS, and he's already matched his stolen base total from last year while drastically cutting his strikeout rate (11.4%). His well-rounded production has been integral to Detroit's offensive success.

2. Chicago Cubs 3v465

The Cubs won their last six series, including a 9-3 stretch since the last edition of our rankings. Seiya Suzuki's bat continues to sizzle, as the outfielder has gone deep three times with 15 RBIs and a 1.171 OPS over the last two weeks. He's also tied for the MLB lead with 52 RBIs.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers 3p55v

The injuries just keep piling up for the Dodgers, yet so do the wins. Mookie Betts is hoping to avoid a trip to the IL after fracturing his toe in a bathroom mishap, but the re-emergence of Max Muncy will help if he misses extended time. The veteran slugger has been hot lately, tying a career high with a seven-RBI game Saturday.

The Yankees won eight of nine before getting humbled by the Dodgers in a World Series rematch. Aaron Judge, who's gone deep five times in his last nine games, gets all the attention, but Paul Goldschmidt's revival has also played a large role in New York's success. The 37-year-old is third in the AL with a .333 batting average to go along with an .874 OPS.

The Mets continue to win games on the strength of their pitching, and nobody on the staff has been stronger than Kodai Senga. The right-hander leads the NL with a 1.60 ERA across 11 starts after injuries limited him to just 5 1/3 innings pitched last year. He's a true ace.

6. Philadelphia Phillies 3v1s5u

Kyle Schwarber is making a strong case for why the Phillies should keep him in the fold. The impending free agent is the only player on the team with double-digit home runs (19) and has been the one constant in Philadelphia's lineup.

7. San Diego Padres 3a3o67

The Padres' recent inconsistent play, which included a six-game losing streak, caused the club to drop in the rankings. However, the emergence of Gavin Sheets has been a bright spot. The 29-year-old went deep five times over his last 12 games to sur his home run total from last year. He's just four long balls away from matching a career high set in 2021.

8. St. Louis Cardinals 1w961

The Cardinals continue to be one of the year's surprise stories. St. Louis went 7-5 over the last two weeks and would be in a playoff spot if the season ended now. Sonny Gray has been sharp during this stretch, allowing just three earned runs with two walks and 25 strikeouts over 19 innings (three starts).

9. San Francisco Giants 134134

The Giants have slowed down a bit after coming out of the gate hot. Their bats struggled in May, recording a 94 wRC+ while hitting just .240 as a group. It's been San Francisco's pitchers who have helped them stay afloat. Robbie Ray is 7-1 with a 2.43 ERA, and the always reliable Logan Webb leads the NL with a 2.19 FIP.

The Astros' offense is finally showing signs of life. Jose Altuve slugged five home runs over the last 10 games, and Jeremy Peña has been on fire since moving into the leadoff spot. The uncertainty surrounding Yordan Alvarez's hand injury is concerning, but there's reason to believe in Houston, given how well Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez are pitching.

11. Tampa Bay Rays 2t3j13

Brandon Lowe has been one of the hottest hitters over the last few weeks, injecting some life into a Rays offense that was underwhelming in the early going. The second baseman put up a 161 wRC+ in May while slugging seven home runs to go along with 16 RBIs.

The performance of Kody Clemens has been a surprising development. He's played multiple positions and leads the Twins with a .947 OPS (minimum 75 PA). It'll be interesting to see how manager Rocco Baldelli goes about utilizing Clemens with Byron Buxton back in the lineup.

Cal Raleigh is marching toward the record books. The star catcher owns an MLB-leading 23 homers after hitting six over the last six games, including four in a three-game series with the Twins. The 28-year-old has a real shot to break Salvador Perez's MLB record of 48 home runs by a backstop.

Christian Yelich has found his stride at the plate, so hopefully a hand injury suffered Sunday doesn't sideline him. Yelich has five home runs over his last 13 games, helping the Brewers sweep the Red Sox and Phillies despite Jackson Chourio and William Contreras struggling offensively of late.

Tanner Bibee and Gavin Williams rounded into form in May. Bibee had a 3.30 ERA in five starts, while Williams utilized a cutter to post a 2.59 ERA with 38 strikeouts in his last 31 1/3 innings. The Guardians are built around strong pitching and timely hitting and will be positioned nicely if those two can continue to anchor things atop the rotation.

The up-and-down Blue Jays finished May on a high note with quality production at the plate. Ernie Clement has been an unsung hero, leading the team in fWAR (1.7) while posting an .818 OPS and excellent defense across multiple positions.

The Royals have understandably struggled with starting pitchers Cole Ragans and Seth Lugo on the injured list. The real issue, however, is that their lineup has no punch. Kansas City has hit the fewest home runs in MLB (34), but luckily help is on the way. Slugger Jac Caglianone is set to make his MLB debut this week after hitting six home runs in nine games in Triple-A.

Brandon Pfaadt was charged with eight earned runs before recording an out Saturday against the Nationals in a historically bad performance. Nothing is going right in Arizona, from Corbin Carroll being ice-cold at the plate to Zac Gallen's ongoing struggles and Corbin Burnes' potential elbow injury.

The Red Sox dropped six of seven to close out the month, finishing a miserable 11-17. Their middle-infield tandem of Kristian Campbell (.355 OPS) and Trevor Story (.432) finished last and next to last, respectively, among 169 qualified hitters during May.

Ronald Acuña Jr. is back. The 2023 NL MVP made his presence known immediately, hitting a home run on the very first pitch in his first game in nearly a year. The Braves continue to be inconsistent and will need to weather the loss of AJ Smith-Shawver in the rotation. Still, things look much brighter with Acuña atop the lineup.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy gave slumping outfielder Adolis García a break to reset after the slugger hit .189 with .557 OPS and 29 strikeouts in May. García also struggled last season and hasn't been the same player since helping the Rangers win the 2023 World Series.

The Reds continue to hover around .500 as a middle-of-the-road team. They're just as likely to score 10 runs as they are zero. Their decision to trade former All-Star closer Alexis Díaz to the Dodgers came as a surprise - will it really be a shock if he magically gets back on track in Los Angeles?

The Nationals' offense has come alive over the last few weeks with James Wood leading the charge. The 22-year-old posted a 177 wRC+ in May with seven home runs, 23 RBIs, and six stolen bases. He's delivering on the potential he showed as a rookie and then some.

The puzzling struggles continue for Adley Rutschman at the plate. He hit .182 with a .560 OPS and 19 strikeouts in 25 games in May. The underlying numbers suggest he should be performing better, but Rutschman has slumped for an extended period dating back to the second half of 2024.

Zach Neto has the look of a budding star if he can stay on the field. He ranks sixth among AL shortstops in fWAR despite having only played 40 games, helped in part by his nine home runs and eight stolen bases. He played a huge role in the Angels' surprising eight-game winning streak.

26. Pittsburgh Pirates 15z3w

The Pirates' poor play created some lively debate about Paul Skenes' future with the organization. Pittsburgh's front office and the generational pitcher are saying the right things, but he's only under team control for four more seasons following 2025. The 23-year-old's price tag for an extension will only go up, and his frugal club is poised to miss the playoffs for the 10th straight year.

The Marlins have the makings of a promising young catching duo in Agustín Ramírez and Liam Hicks. The former has mashed seven home runs, while the latter owns a .811 OPS with respectable defensive metrics. Most teams struggle to get production out of one catcher, let alone two.

White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. was honest when he said teams won't be interested in trading for him if he continues playing poorly. May was unfortunately more of the same for Robert, as he posted a 45 wRC+ with one home run and a 30.9% strikeout rate.

What's up with Mason Miller? The flamethrower posted a 10.38 ERA in May with a pair of blown saves. Opposing hitters have been squaring up Miller's electric fastball to the tune of a .600 slugging percentage. He allowed a .319 mark with the pitch in 2024.

If a historically bad 8-42 record through 50 games wasn't enough, the Rockies then set an MLB record by losing 21 straight series. This team is on pace to blow last year's White Sox out of the water and shatter every previous measure of futility.
