Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes will undergo season-ending surgery "in the coming days" after injuring his right hamstring in Tuesday's victory over Fulham, the club announced. 14y6b
The Gunners said they're aiming for the Brazilian to be ready for the start of next season.
Gabriel's absence is a major setback for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, who play host to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash next week. The return fixture in Spain is the following week.
The defender, 27, has been a mainstay at the heart of Arsenal's backline.
Fellow center-back William Saliba is the only outfield player to more minutes for the north London club this season. The two have combined to create one of the most stout defensive partnerships in England, leading Arsenal to the best defensive record in the Premier League in 2024-25.
Gabriel has also been a key weapon from set pieces, scoring five goals in all competitions on the campaign.
With Riccardo Calafiori also sidelined after an injury on international duty with Italy, Arteta called upon Jakub Kiwior to replace Gabriel when he was forced out in the 16th minute versus Fulham.
Arsenal, second in the Premier League but 12 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, take on Everton this weekend before turning their attention to the anticipated Champions League tilt Tuesday with Real Madrid.
